June 24, 2010
Present: Osfar, Ethun, Bowen, Madden, Hines, John and Helen Rossmiller, Schuelke,
Kellett, White, Scalpone
Meeting Called to Order by Ethun at 9:05AM
Agenda approved. Schuelke made motion, Kellett seconded
Corrected Minutes approved. Madden made motion, Schuelke seconded
Financial Report: Ethun
Ruth will not print out a report unless there is activity on the accounts.
Town Liaison Report: Osfar
Town approved money for boat landing signs.
Took posters to transfer site for picnic and shoreline restoration workshop
Ted only has about 100 signs for this year. They will go to lakes with AIS. Harris will get
one.
Vilas Co Invasive Species Coordinator: Ted Ritter
Not in attendance. Wisconsin Headwaters Invasive Partnership (WHIP) is a newer
group for TIS. Ted sent the following invitation.

Garlic mustard — Ja panese knotweed —
Buckthorn —Eurasian bush honeysuckle
These and other non-native invasive species have arrived in north central WI
and are spreading, eliminating native vegetation and the plants and animals
that depend on healthy natural environments for their survival.

Smart Growth Plan: Scalpone
Jan was not able to go to the June meeting. Next meeting is July 19th. Jan should be
able to attend.
Harris Lake Update: Hines
Teleconference board meeting held. Annual meeting July 3. Association members will
vote as to monitor or treat the curly leaf pondweed. Ontero will do a follow-up study
this week to see if plant growth is increasing or remaining the same. Board will present
results to lake residents at the Harris Lake annual meeting. Earliest treatment would be
2012. DNR is willing to carry the grant over another year. Mark...Why is not treatment
done this year? or 2011? Jan is concerned about results of chemicals for eradication
are toxic to the lake.
Lake Name Signage: Schuelke
Signs can be picked up this week. $40.00 each, $200. Total cost will be paid by Town.
Welcome Packets: Kellett, Bowen and Scalpone will make up a generic sample.
Picnic/Potluck: Saturday, August 21, 5:30PM
Poster reviewed. Bowen made motion to put ad for up to $100. in FYI for our picnic.
Heins seconded. Approved. Jan thinks we should have an educational table for AIS or
lead fishing lures at the picnic. John and Helen will talk about loon watch and explain
the dangers of lead. Cheryl will give Rolf the bulletin board. Each member will ask a
person from their lake to help with crayfish, set up and cleanup and give name to Rolf at
the July meeting. Rolf will coordinate.
Loonwatch: Heins
Loon watch discussion. Which lakes are being monitored?
Shoreline Restoration Workshop: Thursday, July 22, 10:30AM
Poster/ Press release reviewed. Schuelke made a motion to spend up to $100. for an
Ad in FYI. Kellett seconded. Motion passed.
Bowen will also send to radio stations and Lakeland times..Contact Barbara Bull to put
in her Winchester column.
Musky Classic: September 10-12
Hines... Will there be any training provided for volunteers that will be monitoring boats?
Rolf will check with Colin (AIS coordinator)working out of the Discovery Center to see if
he can talk to Harris volunteers. Mark says really only need to check for empty bilge,
empty live wells and check for weeds on the boats and trailers.
Representatives for Birch: Osfar has a few people to talk to. Will keep working on it.
Rolf is in favor of cutting down the number of our meetings in the fall and winter.
Old Business: None
New Business:
Courtesy Code...Committee changed the title “Courtesy Code” to “Lake User Guide”
and updated info. Discussion followed. Committee will review. Joe needs to bring
something firm to the town. Need to include something about fireworks. Committee will
rework.
Power loading...Bill needs definition, has a large boat. Joe...Problems with pads
moving when launched. Discussion followed.
Madden: Adelaide trying to stock walleyes. DNR shocked lake and said that there
would not be enough for walleyes to feed on. Thought about adding minnows. Cannot
put fathead minnows in for feed because it is now illegal.
Rolf has tickets for Winchester Lions chicken BBQ.
Motion to adjourn: Schuelke made motion, Rossmiller seconded. 10:35AM
August meeting will be early due to crayfish bowl. Monday August 16th at 9AM.
